The four largest Northwest Arkansas cities reported a combined 5.62% increase in sales tax collected from merchants in December. The numbers reported to the cities by state officials in January show November transactions. The cities had $9.728 million in combined revenue.

Rogers reported revenue of $2.576 million, up 10.25% from a year ago. City officials have budgeted for a 9.25% growth in 2025 sales tax revenue based on expected new retail development. Bentonville had the smallest gains in the report with sales tax revenue growth of 1.7% from a year ago. The city reported revenue of $2.194 million.

Fayetteville had revenue of $2.847 million, up 6.24% from a year ago. The city is coming off of modest 1.37% gains in 2024, much lower than the 6%, 10.49% and 14.7% growth reported in the preceding three years.

Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse said the 3.66% revenue gains – with $2.109 million up from $2.035 million – his city posted in the January report were solid. He said the city budgeted for between 2.5% and 3% gains in 2025.

“We are cautious with our estimates, but we continue to see new retail development downtown and uptown. As long as the economy stays steady we should have a solid year of tax revenue growth. That’s our hope,” he said.
