Retail advertiser unveils new name; poised for growth

Advertising strategist Destaney Wishon, co-founder and CEO of retail advertising agency BTR Media, says a company rebrand, a key leadership hire and a seed funding round have the business ready for its next growth phase.

Wishon, 29, launched BTR Media three years ago in Bentonville as BetterAMS. The agency specializes in marketing and advertising sales on Amazon using the retailer’s advertising platforms — Amazon DSP and Amazon PPC.

Wishon said the company took on a new name in January, shortly after making its first senior leadership hire, Luke McGinnis, as chief revenue officer. Based in Seattle, McGinnis was most recently vice president of sales for Pacvue.

BTR Media has 28 employees — all working remotely — had revenue last year between $2.5 million and $3 million and has managed over a half-billion dollars in ad spending.

“We’re at 50% year-over-year [revenue] growth right now, and we have a goal of getting to $15 million in annual revenue in the next three years,” said Wishon, a Gravette native. She started working for another company in the Amazon advertising space while earning a business degree from the University of Arkansas. “Once you get started in this industry, you can’t leave it,” she said. “I learned a lot and realized how much I love e-commerce. It’s insanely fast-paced and very competitive.”

BTR Media has 60 clients, including vitamin brand Garden of Life, owned by Nestlé Health Science, and health and wellness company Hyperice.

Wishon, a frequent invited speaker on Amazon advertising-related events and podcasts, said BTR Media was 100% self-funded before accepting seed funding late last year. She said that diversifying the agency’s services into retail media networks other than Amazon is a goal for 2024.
