J.B. Hunt awards 100 scholarships
Lowell-based carrier J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. recently gave $437,500 in scholarships to employees’ family members, according to a news release.
The J.B. Hunt Scholarship for Families program provided 100 new scholarships this year. The program, in its second year, has provided $687,500 in educational financial assistance for families of J.B. Hunt employees since it launched in 2022. The program will be renewed in 2024, with applications expected to start being accepted in the first quarter of the year.
The scholarships provide $2,500 in financial aid for each school year and are renewable for up to four years. The scholarships are available to children or grandchildren of J.B. Hunt employees who attend or plan to attend an accredited two or four-year college, trade school or vocational school. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA and full-time enrollment for renewal.
The scholarship recipients this year are from more than 50 locations throughout the United States. The recipients are studying more than 60 career fields, from aviation science to criminal justice.
Alydia Lennon of Lowell was named a scholarship recipient. Her father, Blake Lennon, is a logistics planner in J.B. Hunt’s dedicated business segment.
“J.B. Hunt is currently helping my dad receive his master’s degree, so receiving this scholarship creates a special father-daughter connection that most likely has not been experienced by many people,” Alydia Lennon said.
The J.B. Hunt Scholarship Program for Families is supported by Scholarship America, an organization that assists people, corporations, and communities with fundraising and awarding scholarships to students.
“We really love this program because it provides an opportunity to help our employees support the dreams of their children and grandchildren,” said Brad Hicks, president of highway services and executive vice president of people at J.B. Hunt. “We are very proud of this year’s class and excited to see the future they create as part of the J.B. Hunt family.”
