Single-family home permits jump 21% in Northwest Arkansas’ 4 largest cities

Residential building permit activity for single-family homes in Northwest Arkansas’ four largest cities is up 21% from last year’s pace through the first seven months of 2023.

According to permit data from each city collected by the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal, there were 1,099 residential building permits issued through July in Bentonville, Fayetteville, Rogers and Springdale. That compares with 908 permits in the same period of 2022.

The permits through July this year have a combined value of $357.98 million, down 13.4% compared with $413.64 million last year.

Officials in Bentonville issued the most permits through July with 376 ($136.63 million), up 18.9% from the previous year of 316 ($164.18 million).

The report from the other cities through the first seven months is:

  • Fayetteville: 276 permits, $83.45 million (2023); 323 permits, $131.01 million (2022).
  • Rogers: 237 permits, $82.18 million (2023); 170 permits, $63.59 million (2022).
  • Springdale: 210 permits, $55.70 million (2023); 99 permits, $54.84 million (2022)

In Bella Vista, through July this year, city officials issued 292 permits valued at $106.69 million. That’s down 19% from 361 permits and $121.59 million in the same period of 2022.

Building officials in Centerton issued 273 single-family permits through July this year valued at $82.84 million. That’s down 46% compared with 514 permits in the same period of 2022.
