Promoter Robyn Jordan, owner of Her Set Her Sound in Fayetteville, provides opportunities for area women DJs in Northwest Arkansas. Jordan’s firm hosts an annual festival for the DJs and consults for area businesses and organizations.

“We book talent, we produce events and programs that include talent to be showcased and compensated,” she said. “Also, I help with consulting other businesses and other organizations who want to create experiences that are multicultural, engages multicultural audiences, and that typically has to do with music or programming that focuses on wellness or wholesomeness.”

Some of her clients include Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Creative Arkansas Community Hub & Exchange, NWA Equality and NWA Trailblazers.

In 2011, Jordan moved from St. Louis to Northwest Arkansas to attend the University of Arkansas. She earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism with an emphasis in advertising and public relations.

She found the need for her firm as she was writing an article for the digital publication Arkansas Soul. In the article, she featured area women DJs who are Black and Brown. However, they didn’t know each other or have spaces in which to play their music together.

“We can create an experience where you are on the same stage, where you can meet each other and strengthen that community amongst the DJs,” Jordan said. “So that’s what the platform did.”

Her firm developed after the first Her Set Her Sound Festival to bring together women DJs. It took place on June 5, 2021.

The third annual festival is set for June 9-10 and will include 15 acts, vendors, food, giveaways and art. It will take place at West and Watson on Friday (June 9) and at Prairie Street Live on Saturday (June 10). Tickets range from $15 to $75 and are available online at this link. Some of the event partners include Experience Fayetteville, KUAF, Mount Sequoyah and Ozark Natural Foods.
