Pop-up clinic opens in Springdale to treat Spanish-speaking patients
Bentonville-based healthcare provider Basis Health is expanding to reach more underserved communities in Northwest Arkansas.
Dr. Harry Lazarte, co-founder and CEO of Basis Health, said the company has started a weekend pop-up clinic in Springdale exclusively for Spanish-speaking patients.
The first clinic was hosted Feb. 26, and he expects the next ones to take place on April 2 and 16. The nearly 2,000-square-foot clinic at 700 N. 40th St., Suite B, has eight exam rooms. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The weekend pop-up clinic was established to treat area Hispanics, and no health insurance is required. Treatment cost is $100, and walk-ins are accepted. The clinic offers primary care services, including exams, medication management, labs and vaccines. He said X-rays will be outsourced.
In 2021, Basis Health, which was exclusively making house calls, relocated its headquarters from Idaho to Bentonville as it expanded healthcare access for the elderly and chronically ill.
Andres Lazarte, co-founder and chief strategy officer of Basis Health, said the pop-up clinic is unique in that “it’s not house calls, but it falls in the same mission Dr. Lazarte has of increasing access to underserved communities. Dr. Lazarte is a leader in a Hispanic church in Rogers and noticed a huge need for healthcare within the community and wanted to start with a Saturday pop-up clinic and remove barriers of language and insurance.”
Lazarte said the Springdale clinic could become a model for other areas and noted that it’s the first one in the area exclusively treating Spanish-speaking patients. He added that these patients are often being treated in hospitals and emergency departments but aren’t receiving preventative care.
“If we can reach some of this population and open the same type of clinics in other smaller towns … I think we can have significant success,” he said.
The clinic has three staff, including Dr. Lazarte, a medical assistant and receptionist.
