NWA residential building surges through August

Residential building permit activity for single-family homes in Northwest Arkansas’s four largest cities is well ahead of last year’s pace through the first eight months of 2021.

According to permit data from each city collected by the Northwest Arkansas Business Journal, there were 1,337 residential building permits issued through August in Bentonville, Fayetteville, Rogers and Springdale. That’s up 32.6% from the same period of 2020 (1,008 permits).

The permits through August this year have a combined value of $424.87 million, up 46.6% compared with $289.80 million last year.

Officials in Fayetteville issued the most permits through August with 517 ($140.02 million), up 47% from the previous year of 350 ($101.40 million).

The report from the other cities through the first four months was:

  • Rogers: 367 permits, $118.9 million (2021); 284 permits, $75.46 million (2020).
  • Bentonville: 258 permits, $99.82 million (2021); 189 permits, $64.35 million (2020).
  • Springdale: 195 permits, $66.13 million (2021); 185 permits, $48.59 million (2020).

In Bella Vista, through August this year, city officials issued 415 permits valued at $119.56 million. That’s up from 269 permits and $68.68 million in the same period of 2020.
