Jonesboro airport to receive more than $3 million for runway project
Jonesboro Municipal Airport has been awarded a $3.55 million federal grant to strengthen the runway, according to a Tuesday (Oct. 5) news release.
The airport was the only one in Arkansas to receive a share of more than $479 million in airport infrastructure grants that were announced Tuesday by the Federal Aviation Administration of the U.S. Department of Transportation. The grants were awarded to 123 airports across all 50 states, American Samoa and Puerto Rico.
“These grants will help strengthen our country’s airports and the communities they serve by making investments that create jobs and increase safety, sustainability and accessibility,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said.
The new grants are in addition to the more than $3.1 billion in Airport Improvement Program grants awarded during fiscal year 2021 and include American Rescue Plan Act funding to cover the usual local-match requirement.
