Mark and Kimberly Daniels, owners of Cave Springs-based Sign Studio, have purchased D-Sign Inc. at 204 Jane Place in Lowell.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Barry Graves, executive broker of Cantrell-Griffin Business Brokers, handled the sale, which was completed Sept. 4.
The Daniels started to look into purchasing the company in early 2020, but the deal was delayed because of COVID-19. The Daniels purchased the business from Don and Reba Cobb, who had owned the business since 1986 and were looking to retire. D-Sign was established in 1968, and Mark Daniels said it is the oldest continuously operating sign shop in Northwest Arkansas.
“We felt like it was a pretty big deal to purchase them,” he said. “For us, there’s a lot of exposure with that name, D-Sign. People know them. They’ve been around for a long time and lots of good publicity there.”
The purchase includes a 12,000-square-foot building on 3 acres and equipment. D-Sign handles manufacturing, installation and maintenance and service. The business will be expanded to include neon sign manufacturing, Mark Daniels said. D-Sign has the manufacturing equipment to bend neon, but it hasn’t been used for nearly 20 years.
The company will retain the existing four D-Sign employees. Also, the former owners will remain on staff to help with the transition, and Don Cobb plans to help with sales.
In April 2019, the Daniels purchased Bentonville sign shop Chambers Sign Co. The shop, which was established 25 years ago, has since been rebranded to Sign Studio. D-Sign also will likely be merged with the Sign Studio name, but the Daniels want to retain the D-Sign legacy and plan to refurbish a nostalgic neon sign to become a permanent fixture on the building.
Sign Studio has four locations, including a 15,000-square-foot warehouse and banner sewing facility in Rogers. The company was established 15 years ago and has nearly 30 employees.
