Springdale-based retail grocery chain Harps Food Stores has promoted J. Max Van Hoose to executive vice president.

Van Hoose, a Springdale native, joined the business 22 years ago. He has held the titles of director of construction and, most recently, vice president of store planning.

“J. Max has been instrumental for much of our growth since 1997,” President and CEO Kim Eskew said in a statement. “That includes negotiating with store owners for acquisitions, finding investors to purchase our real estate and finding future sites for expansion. He has done a tremendous job in a very competitive industry. I look forward to working closely with J. Max in his new position.”

Van Hoose graduated with a degree in industrial engineering from the University of Arkansas. He earned an MBA from the University of Kansas. He is a board member of the Missouri Grocers Association and the Arkansas Academy of Industrial Engineers.

Harps is an employee-owned company with 91 stores in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.
