Mike Tyner promoted to Jonesboro Director of Code Enforcement
Mike Tyner has been promoted to Director of Code Enforcement for the City of Jonesboro, Mayor Harold Perrin said. Tyner has served in code enforcement for the city since 2012 and as senior code enforcement officer since 2015.
He replaces Scott Baxter, who has become a captain in the Jonesboro Police Department.
“I have been impressed with Mike’s work in code enforcement,” Perrin said. “He is thorough, caring, and a good public servant to the people of Jonesboro.”
A former team/section leader and non-commissioned officer in the U.S. Army, Tyner has a bachelor’s degree in criminology and sociology from Arkansas State University.
“I want to build on what Scott put in place,” Tyner said of his immediate goals. “We have a growing city with a lot of ground to cover – only four staffers to cover 82 square miles. Our biggest problems are neglected properties: overgrown grass and unsightly or unsanitary conditions.”
Tyner said the code enforcement department “coordinates with other city departments and neighborhood associations to sponsor cleanup activities, and we’re about 70 percent proactive, meaning officer-identified code violations. The rest are responses to public complaints.”
Tyner, a married father of five, is a northeast Arkansas native who completed several tours of duty overseas as a combat engineer clearing mines and explosive hazards. He worked as a criminal investigator in the Washington District U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Department.
