Transportation services provider BNSF Logistics is planning to double the office space at its U.S. headquarters along Interstate 49 in Springdale. The company will build a 30,000-square-foot office on nearly 3 acres adjacent to its existing office.

“Our business has outgrown our current space, and we are building an additional office to continue to expand in the market,” said President Dan Curtis. “The new building will be used for additional office and meeting spaces for our business. The new building will accommodate more than 200 employees from numerous departments across the company.”

Construction on the building is expected to start this month and should be completed in September 2019, Curtis said. It will be built on 2.84 acres between BNSF Logistics’ existing 30,000-square-foot office and 48th Street.

BNSF Office 2 LLC of Rogers purchased the land on Nov. 15 from Ozark Guidance Center Foundation of Springdale for $1.22 million, according to Washington County real estate records. BNSF Logistics on Dec. 3, 2015, opened its existing office at 2710 S. 48th St., near the Randal Tyson Recreational Complex and across I-49 from Arvest Ballpark and pediatric hospital Arkansas Children’s Northwest.

The existing office has about 250 employees. When it opened, it employed 185 people, consolidated two locations into one and became the domestic headquarters for the company. BNSF Logistics is a Berkshire Hathaway company and a subsidiary of Burlington Northern Santa Fe LLC, which is the parent company of Fort Worth, Texas-based BNSF Railway Co. Warren Buffett is CEO of Berkshire Hathaway.
