Herget to kickoff entrepreneurship and innovation series

He started his business in a friend’s living room 20 years ago, and now he has locations across the country.

Jonesboro businessman and entrepreneur Ted Herget, owner and founder of Gearhead Outfitters, will be the featured speaker Wednesday (Sept. 27) at the first installment of the Arkansas State University Entrepreneurship & Innovation Speaker Series. The Speaker Series will be held three times this fall in the Reng Student Union Auditorium on the ASU campus.

A 1997 ASU graduate, Herget and his wife, Amanda, founded Gearhead Outfitters in downtown Jonesboro that same year, inside the friend’s living room. Gearhead sells a wide variety of outdoor sports gear and apparel. The company started in a 700-square-foot space befor moving downtown in 2003. There is now a location inside Turtle Creek Mall. The business has nine locations in Arkansas, and one each in Missouri and Louisiana, and employs about 80 workers.

He has supported the revitalization of downtown Jonesboro, according to business and civic leaders. Herget and his wife are apart of Project 90 Running Revolution, a program that helps to train new runners how to train and get into better shape. The 90-day program focuses on ways to train, diet, hydration, and other aspects of healthy conditioning. His presentation, “Always Running: A Dynamic Story of Business and Change,” will be held from1 to 2 p.m., with a reception to follow.

Other presentations from the Arkansas State Entrepreneurship & Innovation Speaker Series this fall include “Getting the Green: Small Business Loans and Grants,” on Oct. 11 and “The Women’s Business Leadership Center Presents: Entrepreneur Extraordinaires,” on Nov. 13. Both the October and November sessions will be held from 1 to 2:15 p.m., also in the Reng Student Union auditorium.
