Moehring wins Benton County judge’s race; Holloway elected sheriff
Republican nominees for Benton County’s two top offices won their contests Tuesday (Nov. 8) as Barry Moehring was elected county judge and Shawn Holloway won the sheriff’s race.
In Rogers, Greg Hines was re-elected as mayor, an office he has held for nearly six years.
The county judge’s and sheriff’s offices were open after the incumbents were defeated in Republican primaries earlier this year. Moehring beat County Judge Bob Clinard in March, setting up the general election race against Libertarian nominee Ronnie Smith and write-in candidate Jeff Broadston. Moehring has been a justice of the peace on the quorum court for four years. The final tally was Moehring, 67,167; Smith, 23,522, and Broadston, 110.
Holloway, the chief deputy in the sheriff’s office, won the Republican nomination in March after defeating then-Sheriff Kelly Cradduck and two other primary candidates. In the general election, Holloway defeated Libertarian candidate Glenn Latham, a former deputy at the sheriff’s office, 66,122 to 25,903.
Cradduck resigned as sheriff in April and Meyer Gilbert was appointed to complete the remainder of his term. Cradduck pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of ordering an employee’s hiring records to be altered.
ROGERS
Hines will return to the mayor’s office after defeating challenger Carrie Perrien Smith, 13,346 to 6,628. He took office as mayor in 2011 to fill the unexpired term of Steve Womack upon his election to Congress. Before becoming mayor he served on the city council for 12 years and had been Benton County’s public safety director.
One city council seat was contested in a three-way race and no one got a majority, so it will be decided in a Nov. 29 runoff. In Ward 3, Position 2, Jerry Carmichael and Keith Jackson will face off at the end of the month. The final count was Carmichael, 7,058; Jackson, 5,513, and Daniel Kolman, 4,253.

LEGISLATURE
Three House districts in Benton County elected representatives.
