Former Wal-Mart driver involved in Tracy Morgan crash pleads to deal
Kevin Roper, the Wal-Mart truck driver who in 2014 crashed into a van injuring several passengers including comedian Tracy Morgan and killing James McNair, has pled guilty to vehicular homicide and aggravated assault in order to avoid jail time.
Roper was indicted by a New Jersey grand jury in January.
On Nov. 29, Roper, who is no longer employed by Wal-Mart, entered a guilty plea before the Superior Court in Middlesex County, N.J. The deal requires Roper to complete a three-year intervention program along with 300 hours of community service. At which time the charges will be dismissed.
An investigation by the National Transportation Safety Board found Roper had been awake for 28 hours and worked nearly half of that time when the accident occurred on June 7, 2014.
Wal-Mart settled with Morgan for an undisclosed sum in May 2015, and paid McNair’s children $10 million in early 2015.
