Walmart U.S. raises store management pay ahead of overtime rule change
Walmart U.S. typically pays its store workers an hourly wage, but those managerial positions which are salary will be raised above the new federal guidelines to $48,000 from $45,000, according to Walmart corporate spokesman Randy Hargrove.
Walmart’s manager raises have been effective since September, but the retailer did not say how many of its 1.5 million workers got the pay bump ahead of the federal government’s rule change slated to take effect on Dec. 1. The new rules require employers to pay overtime wages for any salary employee earning less than $47,765 for any time over 40 hours worked in a week.
This move comes after the retailer consolidated some of the back-office work eliminating 7,000 positions across its 4,600 stores fleet in September.
