Lawrence County Quorum Court member resigns
Longtime Lawrence County Justice of the Peace Jim Jones has tendered his resignation from the court. Jones, who served on the court since 1999, has taken a job as a bailiff and thought it would be a conflict of interest to continue to serve as a JP while employed at that job.
Jones is an Imboden native and represented that area on the court. Another Imboden resident, Glen Smith, has been selected by the Quorum Court to finish Jones’ term. Media reports that two court members resigned are false, Lawrence County Judge Dale Freeman told Talk Business and Politics.
Gov. Asa Hutchinson will decide if Smith or someone else will fill Jones’ term. State law requires the governor to make the appointment. A timetable to replace Jones has not been released. A newly elected JP will take the seat in 2017.
