Edward Tanner, 53, will replace former Jonesboro Chief Operations Officer L.M. Duncan who resigned his post last week. Duncan retired from the position earlier this year but returned after the city experienced catastrophic flooding that left parts of the city’s road system damaged.

“We’re extremely pleased to have Ed because of his background in strategic planning and organization,”Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin said. “He will be able to assist all of our department heads in accomplishing their goals.”

Tanner, a former commander in the U.S. Air Force for 21 years, was a commander at the Air Force Combat Survival School, and held similar positions at West Point and the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo.

“When my wife read the job description she said ‘That’s you,'” Tanner said. “So, I pursued the job, and I’m very proud to be here.”
