Black will head JETS program in Jonesboro
The Jonesboro Economical Transportation System (JETS) has a new director.
JETS transportation supervisor Michael Black, 53, has been selected to replace outgoing director Steve Ewart who is retiring. Black and Ewart worked for JETS since 2008. A former city code enforcement officer, Black also worked as a manager for an auto parts store before his employment with the city, according to information released.
“Our top priority will be to enhance service and promote public transit in the most positive light,” Black said.
JETS began operation in May, 2006. The public transportation service has five fixed routes throughout the city. The service expanded a lot in recent years as more college students without transportation move to the city, officials said. At least 140 stops are registered each day by JETS buses, according to information released. Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin said the search for a new director was lengthy, but that Black was the right choice.
“He (Black) knows the system. He’s run the day to day operations, and we’re confident that he will do a great job and carry on what Steve started,” the mayor said.
