25th annual Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival returns in October
The 25th Annual Hot Springs Documentary Film Festival returns to the Spa City this October, welcoming submissions from 80 countries across the globe.
Launched in 1991 by Hot Springs convert Sy Gomberg, who was at the time head of the Documentary Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Festival is one of only 38 qualifiers in the nation for the Oscar for Best Documentary Short Subject.
The Festival launches on Oct. 7 and will feature over 100 films from the current festival circuit as well as the addition of a past-festival tradition. Sponsor Deltic Timber will showcase a series of environmental films, and the Spa City Sports and AARP Films for Grownups series will return, as will HSDFF Family Day, and a variety of programs for students.
Also returning will be the Academy-sponsored Women Behind the Lens series, featuring the work of diverse female documentarians.
Last but not least, the HSDFF will bring a number of parties to restaurants and venues throughout the city’s historic Central Avenue district during the 10-day period ending Oct. 16. Future announcements of screenings, special events and celebrity guests will be available at this link in the coming weeks.
