Stephens Mayor to lead Arkansas Municipal League
At its 82nd convention last week in Little Rock, The Arkansas Municipal League elected its new slate of officers for the 2016-2017 year. Stephens Mayor Harry Brown was elected president.
Other officers elected for 2016-2017 include Springdale Mayor Doug Sprouse, first vice president; Marianna Mayor Jimmy Williams, District 1 vice president; Bryant Mayor Jill Dabbs, District 2 vice president; Fort Smith Vice Mayor Kevin Settle, District 3 vice president; and Mulberry Mayor Gary Baxter, District 4 vice president.
The Municipal League adopted an agenda for the upcoming year that includes:
- Renewed support for the Marketplace Fairness and Remote Transactions Parity Act of 2015 currently being considered by Congress
- A call for the Arkansas General Assembly to increase the cap on millage local governments may assess to fund local police and fire pension plans
- An increase in the annual appropriation for funding historical rehabilitation income tax credits
The League’s membership also adopted a resolution to include protections for cities and towns within the provisions of S.J.R. 16 of 2015 should voters pass Issue 3 in November’s general election.
The Arkansas Municipal League is a service and advocacy organization for nearly 500 cities and towns across Arkansas.
