Dexter Doyne to chair Little Rock Port Authority board
The Little Rock Port Authority board of directors elected Dexter Doyne to the position of chairman replacing Chris Mathews. He will assume this position at the July meeting and will serve in this capacity until June 2017. The board also elected Melissa Hendrix as Vice Chair and Frank D. Scott, Jr. as Treasurer.
Doyne was appointed to the Little Rock Port Authority in the summer of 2010. He served as the board’s vice-chairman for the past two years.
Doyne, a Little Rock native, began his construction company in 1983 in his hometown community of College Station. Doyne Construction Company has evolved into a multi-million dollar commercial construction company performing all types of construction projects throughout Arkansas and in surrounding states.
“Having grown up in College Station, Arkansas, I have watched the Port of Little Rock evolve into an economic engine that contributes millions of dollars to central Arkansas every year. It is incredible to watch our industry partners produce goods and products that eventually find their way around the globe. I am excited and humbled to chair this Board, and I look forward to continuing the successes that we have had over the years,” Doyne said.
The Port of Little Rock was established in 1959 by state-enabling legislation. The City of Little Rock Board of Directors and citizens then approved a bond issue to buy the original land for the Port’s industrial park.
Adjacent to I-440, connecting to I-30 and I-40, the Little Rock Port Authority is on the 448-mile McClellan-Kerr Arkansas River Navigation System, which runs from the Mississippi River northwest to 15 miles east of Tulsa. Its intermodal transportation center features a 2,640-acre industrial park, two full-service river terminals, its own switching railroad and the Slackwater Harbor. The Port is designated as a U.S. Customs Point of Entry and Foreign Trade Zone 14.
