J.B. Hunt’s Shelley Simpson receives ‘Distinguished Women in Logistics’ award
Shelley Simpson, chief marketing officer for logistics giant J.B. Hunt Transport, was recently honored as the 2016 recipient of the “Distinguished Women in Logistics Award” at the Transportation Intermediaries Association conference in San Antonio.
The award recognizes the roles of women leaders in the field of transportation and logistics. In addition to leading businesses or operating units, finalists demonstrate superior leadership within their company as well as other professional, educational, or philanthropic organizations.
“I am thankful for all the organizations responsible for presenting this award. They have a history of encouraging, supporting, and recognizing the women in our industry and the accomplishments we’ve achieved. They do great work, and I am honored and humbled to be part of this,” Simpson said.
Simpson joined J.B. Hunt in 1994 as a customer service representative and now serves as the executive vice president, chief marketing officer, and president of integrated capacity solutions and truckload. In her role, Simpson oversees the sales and marketing strategy for all aspects of the company.
As president of Integrated Capacity Solutions (ICS) and Truckload divisions, Simpson helped increase the operating income in the truckload segment by 82% while also increasing fleet productivity.
As J.B. Hunt’s highest-ranking female, Simpson serves as an executive sponsor of J.B. Hunt’s first employee resource group – Growing and Retaining Outstanding Women (GROW). The organization empowers career-minded women, addressing their needs at work and at home and connects employees through common interests.
Simpson is also involved with Women in Supply Chain Excellence, a University of Arkansas organization that provides professional guidance to college students interested in transportation careers. She helped found the J.B. Hunt Supply Chain University powered by Walton College.
