Getting a JOLT, and bringing ‘Made by Few’ to Bentonville
JOLT HACKATHON
The second cohort of the JOLT Hackathon will be Feb. 27-28 at the Venture Center in Little Rock. The event will be an opportunity for participants to engage in learning activities to help develop their real-world tech skills and soft skills.
According to press release, “Participants compete in a Jeopardy-style, FinTech-themed contest, completing technical puzzles of increasing difficulty and point value.”
The event lasts for two days and all meals and snacks are included. According to the website participants will receive:
• 5 Meals (Lunch and Dinner on Sat; Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner on Sunday);
• Snacks – fuel to keep you going;
• Drinks – beer, energy drinks, sodas and all the caffeine you need to support you on your quest to victory;
• Access to technical mentors;
• Exposure to local tech talent and employers; and
• The chance to learn from (and connect with) other tech minds in Little Rock.
The event is sold out, but there is a waiting list. According to Steve Rice, Venture Center director of communications, “Individuals can put together a team (of up to 4 people). They should call Jessica [Johnston-Myers] directly at 501-404-9875 for more info.”
OPEN HOUSE AT THE HUB
The Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub will host an open house on March 3 from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. at the Hub facilities at 201 E. Broadway in North Little Rock. It is a chance to see new and expanded areas such as the design studios and the co-working area.
The open house will feature a special celebration at 1:30 p.m. featuring local, state, and federal officials.
In addition, the Hub will host “Beer, Brats & Bots” on Saturday (Feb. 27). According to the website, “Beer, Brats and Bots is a one-day, throw-down, robot challenge. If you missed our first BBB, you won’t want to miss it this year. Beer, Brats and Bots! A mind-blurring battle of brawn, brains, beauty and brilliance!”
MADE BY FEW 2016 IN BENTONVILLE
The Made by Few Team announced in an email that it will host its annual design conference, Made by Few, in Bentonville utilizing the Crystal Bridges Museum of Art and the 21c Museum Hotel. The event is set for Oct. 26-29.
Made by Few is the popular design conference that will be in its fifth year and attracts hundreds of designers from across the country to Arkansas to learn from some of the most respected and innovative designers in the United States. Made by Few is hosted each year by Few, a creative design agency located in Little Rock and headed up by Arlton Lowry and David Husdson. Few is the creator of the app Grades.io which received national attention.
The high profile event will be offering student tickets and day passes for the first time this year. In addition, the folks at Few are offering an early bird discount to the event which can view on their Facebook page.
