ASU College of Business to relaunch career closet program
Arkansas State University students will have an opportunity to dress professionally and look sharp during their job searches as the College of Business relaunches the Career Closet program. In addition, the COB will donate boxes of clothing to Goodwill of Arkansas.
Members of the College of Business are relaunching the Career Closet program, Friday, Feb. 12, at 12:30 p.m. in front of the business building at 2007 Aggie Road. During the event, donations of new or slightly used business-professional clothing and accessories from individuals and businesses will be accepted. Items that do not meet the business criteria will be donated to Goodwill.
“The COB Career Closet loan program is one way we help prepare students for success,” said H. Steve Leslie, instructor of business communication. “We are working to assure all our students, especially those who are not able to afford appropriate business professional clothing, have access to business attire.”
The Career Closet program has been in existence at ASU since the fall of 2014. It is an on-campus closet with new or slightly used business clothing that College of Business students may access to attend professional meetings, interviews and other business-related events.
Leslie said that interested students would have access to clothing from the Career Closet after meeting specific criteria. A student must have his/her résumé vetted and approved by ASU Career Services and attend at least two of the ASU Career Services workshops that are within the semester in which items are requested. The workshops include interviewing, résumé, job search, employer presentations and Career Services’ job fair.
