Walmart driver Kevin Roper indicted in Tracy Morgan accident
A New Jersey grand jury recently indicted Walmart U.S. truck driver Kevin Roper on 10 charges related to the fatality accident that claimed the life of comedian James McNair and injured actor/comedian Tracy Morgan.
Roper, a resident of Georgia, was charged Dec. 23 with first-degree aggravated manslaughter, second-degree vehicular homicide and third-degree aggravated assault stemming from the 2014 crash, according to media reports.
Roper was placed on administrative leave by Walmart immediately following the June 2014 accident. The retailer has not responded to multiple requests for a comment regarding Roper’s recent indictment, nor provided an update on his employment status.
The National Transportation Safety Board investigation found Roper had not slept for previous 28 hours before the crash. The investigation also stated that Roper failed to observe the slower speed limits posted along the New Jersey Turnpike which was a major factor in his inability to stop, instead crashing into the commercial limo van which was standing still in traffic on the expressway.
Earlier this year the retailer settled with Morgan and the other passengers involved as well as McNair’s family for an undisclosed amount.
