Iowa TV ads targeting Cruz
While Iowa and New Hampshire are ground-zero for the Presidential campaigns this week and next, voters in those states are being bombarded on the airwaves.
Arkansas, which moved up its primary to March 1, isn’t seeing the barrage of ads as there is still a month to go until Election Day.
KATV’s Janelle Lilley and Talk Business & Politics Roby Brock examined three of the most buzzed about ads running in Iowa.
The first ad is a Donald Trump ad that targets Ted Cruz on illegal immigration. The 60-second spot pulls quotes from Cruz on the subject suggesting he’s flip-flopped on the issue. Trump launched his candidacy with controversial statements on Mexican immigrants and the top has been a tussle in the GOP primary.
The second ad examined is a Hillary Clinton TV spot. The 30-second ad all but ignores Democratic challenger Bernie Sanders and focuses on controversial quotes from five different GOP Presidential contenders. The Clinton ad then asks, “Who can stand up to them?”
The third ad is a pro-Huckabee PAC ad that, again, takes aim at Ted Cruz. The ad involves two ladies sitting in a restaurant or coffee shop suggesting they’ve heard Cruz is for gay marriage, doesn’t tithe to church or charity, and is a “phony.” It’s poorly acted, but powerful in its negativity.
