ASU Signs Agreement with Indonesian University
Arkansas State University Chancellor Tim Hudson signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Manado (UNIMA), a public university located in the province of North Sulawesi in Indonesia, during a recent campus ceremony.
UNIMA consists of three campus locations with more than 32,000 students. Noting UNIMA’s growth, programs and leadership, Hudson described the importance of the agreement.
“At Arkansas State we are committed to providing our students with an education that includes an understanding of the wider world,” he said. “Indonesia is one of the most powerful and important countries in the world, and certainly our students need to know more about it. We’re honored to enter into this initial agreement and we look forward to developing many programs with our new colleagues from Indonesia.”
Three individuals represented the University of Manado during the signing ceremony. They were Dr. Philoteus E A Tuerah, rector (chief executive officer) and professor; Dr. Sjamsi Pasandaran, professor and chair of the UNIMA Senate; and Dr. Recky H. E. Sendouw, deputy vice rector.
UNIMA is interested in sending students and faculty to A-State to study English in the English Learning Academy (ELA). In addition to the ELA program, this will include students taking part in short-term English intensive programs.
The two universities also are working to develop a 2+2 degree program partnership in business administration. Students participating in this agreement would study the first two years in Indonesia, then transfer to ASU to complete their undergraduate degree.
