Wal-Mart Stores Inc. wasted no time in appointing its new chief marketing officer to replace the retiring Stephen Quinn next month. The retailer again tapped someone from its China market as Tony Rogers returns to Bentonville after a two-year stint as teh retailer’s marketing chief in China.

Rogers will assume the chief marketing role for the U.S. division in mid-January and will report to Walmart U.S. CEO Greg Foran. He will work with Michael Frances, a former marketing chief for Target who has been hired as a consultant to help with the transition of that department, according to Walmart spokeswoman Deisha Barnett.

She said Rogers will have responsibility for Walmart’s marketing efforts including customer research, strategy, program development, branding and customer communication.

Rogers has spent a decade at Wal-Mart, most recently serving as chief marketing officer for Walmart China where he managed traditional, digital and social media efforts for Walmart stores.
