Rep. Dwight Tosh, R-Jonesboro said Monday (Oct. 26) he would seek re-election in the 2016 general election. Tosh represents Arkansas House district 52 and was first elected in 2014 with more than 64% of the vote.

District 52 includes parts of Craighead, Independence, Jackson, and Poinsett Counties.

As a member of the Judiciary, State Agencies & Government Affairs, and Joint Performance Review Committees, Tosh said he has been at the forefront of many reform measures happening in our state.

“I believe government should be limited, efficient, and out of our everyday lives,” Tosh said. “I’m proud to say the legislature has been working to make that happen.”

Tosh sponsored a bill that protected the civil liability of individuals who use deadly force in self-defense. He was a co-sponsor of legislation to protect our religious freedoms and has a 100% pro-life voting record. He helped pass several tax cuts, including the largest income tax reduction in state history.

“I’ve traveled this district getting to know people and listening to their thoughts and concerns. I’m positive people want someone who will stand up for their 2nd Amendment rights, work for smaller government, and who will defend our Christian values,” continued Tosh. “I believe I’ve done that, and in my next term, I will continue to stand strong for the way of life that is important to all of us.”

Because of his work in the legislature, Tosh received an Advocate for Justice Award, was named as part of the Heroes of Freedom 2015 and was given a Community Excellence award from the city of Marked Tree.

In addition to his legislative committees, Tosh was appointed by House Speaker Jeremy Gillam, R-Judsonia to serve on the Criminal Justice Oversight Task Force and the Arkansas Supreme Court Committee on Security and Emergency Preparedness.

A Craighead County native, Tosh is a graduate of Valley View High School. He spent 37 years with the Arkansas State Police, including his last 17 years as a Troop Captain in Northeast Arkansas based out of Jackson County. Tosh and his wife, Joan, reside in Jonesboro. Joan, a former teacher and counselor, serves as Treasurer of the Retired Teachers Association. They have two children and four grandchildren.
