Paint The Town Red Events Scheduled For ASU Football
Officials with the Jonesboro Regional Chamber of Commerce are hoping that people have a “Howl” of a time next month as Arkansas State University hosts its first home football game of the year Sept. 12 against SEC power Missouri.
The chamber’s ASU Committee met Thursday to put the finishing touches on this year’s Paint the Town Red event.
The event runs from Sept. 8 through 11, with events all over Jonesboro.
A balloon launch kicks off the week on Sept. 8, while downtown businesses will be decorated throughout the week.
The event typically brings ASU fans to downtown Jonesboro for several events like pep rallies, parades and tailgate parties.
Dawn Layer, who chairs the ASU committee, said the 19th annual event tries to bring together local businesses with the thousands of people expected to attend the game.
Many of the events at the Big Great A-State Tailgate on Sept. 11 are in downtown Jonesboro.
A Kidz Zone, along with tents, will be set up for the event.
Layer said the committee has also worked to get vendors and booths set up for the event, which is expected to be around Main Street in Jonesboro.
Officials have also invited fans from Missouri to go to Jonesboro a day early to participate in the fun, Layer said.
In addition to Paint the Town Red, the committee is also working on hosting a chili cook-off Oct. 20 in time for the game against Louisiana-Lafayette.
The game will be aired nationally on ESPN2.
