The Walmart Foundation State Giving Council Program announced more than $1 million in grants for its second funding cycle on Wednesday (July 29).

Twenty-one Arkansas nonprofit organizations were awarded funding to support hunger relief, healthy eating or career opportunities, officials said.

“At Walmart, our mission is to create opportunities so people can live better,” Nick Berkeley, Walmart Vice President and Regional General Manager for Arkansas, said. “In addition to the thousands of community service hours our associates perform and the in-kind donations that are spread throughout the communities we serve, these State Giving grants allow us to help nonprofit organizations fulfill their mission and continue on their path of service.”

One of the groups, ARVets, also thanked the Walmart Foundation.

“As a nonprofit organization that helps veterans and their family members, ARVets has always appreciated the support and leadership of Walmart. Hiring our nation’s heroes is one way our corporate community can show their gratitude and Walmart plays a key role in increasing awareness and their commitment to this effort across this state and nation,” said ARVets CEO Nicole Hart. “As a veteran myself, I want to thank Walmart for being on the front lines of this battle to employ our men and women who served our great country.”
