Arkansas 351/Aggie Road Bid Receives Approval
A Randolph County construction company was the apparent low bidder for a project to build a roundabout in Northeast Jonesboro, a spokesman for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Commission said Wednesday.
Danny Straessle said Seagraves Construction, Inc. of Maynard turned in a $1,198,058.25 for the Arkansas 351/Aggie Road roundabout.
The roundabout will be built at the Arkansas 351/Aggie Road intersection, a busily traveled road that connects both Arkansas State University and the Jonesboro Regional Airport to U.S. 49.
Jonesboro council members voted July 7 to support transferring federal highway funding for the project.
Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin played a huge role in helping to get the project ready to go, Straessle said.
“The mayor really stepped up to guarantee federal funds for the project,” Straessle said.
Perrin said the project came in under budget by nearly $200,000, with city officials originally having $1.38 million set aside for the project.
State highway officials will spend the next several days reviewing the bid from Seagraves, Straessle said, noting the review is customary for every low bid received.
According to the bid paperwork, the project has a 75-day completion requirement.
However, Straessle said he believes work can begin in four to six weeks with the project at least starting before Labor Day.
