Hobbs State Park Conservation Area to Highlight the Diversity of Dragonflies

Hobbs State Park will be celebrating the beauty and diversity of dragonflies on Saturday, June 13 with programs for all ages as part of our Summer of Insects series. This series will focus on citizen science and identifying the numerous insects on the park. With over 100 species of dragonflies documented within the state, there is plenty of beauty to discover.

Mother Nature will be reading about Dragonflies and celebrating them with an activity beginning at 10:30 a.m. This program is recommended for children 3 -6, but great for all those young at heart.

Expert entomologist, Robert Thomas will be sharing his knowledge and beautiful photographs of dragonflies starting at noon with an hour talk about these amazing creatures. His talk will be followed with a special Dragonfly: Catch and Release demonstration that will allow us an up-close look at these beautiful creatures.

At 3:30 p.m. you will have a chance to make your own dragonfly craft to take home with you.

Join us to learn more about these beautiful and beneficial predators.

Where:  Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area visitor center located on Hwy 12 just east of the Hwy 12/War Eagle Road intersection.
