Go-Geocaching Event Inspires Visitors to Explore Hobbs State Park
In celebration of Memorial Day Weekend, Hobbs State Park Conservation Area will be hosting a geocaching event Saturday, May 23, 2015. Participants should register at the visitor center from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. to get the coordinates for several caches hidden in Arkansas’s largest state park! The event is designed to get visitors out exploring areas of the park they may have never seen before. Groups will have until 3:30 p.m. to find the caches and get back to the visitor center with bragging rights!
“Geocaching is a popular recreational activity that uses GPS coordinates to encourage participants to find “hidden” treasures,” explains Park Interpreter Rebekah Penny. “In this case, the treasures are the sights and sounds of Hobbs State Park.” “It [geocaching] is a great way to get out and explore,” says Park Interpreter Melissa Vickers, “and this event will have people discovering some rarely seen areas of the park.”
All groups must provide their own GPS unit or cell phone with GPS applications. There will be caches of a range of difficulties, so there is something for everyone to explore!
Where: Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area visitor center located on Hwy 12 just east of the Hwy 12/War Eagle Road intersection.
When: Saturday, May 23, 2015 Registration is from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. The event last until 3:30 p.m.
