Talk Politics Midweek Roundtable: The Adopted Child Situation
This week’s “Talk Politics” roundtable is online and available for viewing at the bottom of this post.
KATV’s lead capitol reporter Janelle Lilley joined Talk Business & Politics’ Steve Brawner and Frank Scott for a conversation on a variety of legislative topics.
The top story of the week centers around The Arkansas Times report of Rep. Justin Harris, R-Springdale, who reportedly placed adoptive children in his custody with another family. Later, one of the children was sexually abused.
The story is serious on a number of fronts: Why does the state not have a policy against “rehoming” adopted children? Did Rep. Harris break any laws? Will he eventually talk to the media? Will he feel pressure to resign his public office? Our roundtable discusses the situation.
FYI, after taping on Wednesday afternoon, Rep. Greg Leding, D-Fayetteville, filed HB 1648, to address the transfer of adoptive children.
Also, which legislators have been “unsung heroes” this session? Will Gov. Asa Hutchinson have any major legislative losses during the 90th General Assembly? And, of all the task forces forming this session, which ones have the most difficult goals?
