Gov. Asa Hutchinson has nominated Aaron Burkes as the new president of the Arkansas Development Finance Authority.

ADFA is a state agency that administers funding through tax exempt bonds and other debt instruments via a number of program activities. The activities are primarily divided into three main categories: Economic Development, Home Ownership, and Affordable Rental Housing.

Burkes, who served one term in the state House in the mid-2000’s, has held several academic posts in recent years. He also has experience in real estate, economic development and workforce education.

Burkes was recently selected for the position of associate vice chancellor for business affairs at the University of Arkansas but, before beginning in that post, was invited to serve in the role with ADFA.

“I am pleased to submit the name of Aaron Burkes to serve as the next president of the Arkansas Development Finance Authority. Aaron’s varied experience and educational background make him an ideal fit to lead this department,” said Gov. Asa Hutchinson. “He understands banking, real estate and the law and, as a former state representative, Aaron knows the legislative process. In addition, his recent experience in economic and workforce development and administration should serve him well in this important post.”

Burkes represented a district in Benton County during his one term in the legislature.

An Arkansas native and graduate of Southside High in Fort Smith, Burkes received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, a master’s degree in economics from Clemson University and a juris doctor degree from Baylor University. He is a licensed attorney.
