ARE YOU A PARENT, EDUCATOR OR CITIZEN THAT WOULD LIKE TO LEARN MORE ABOUT
THE COMMON CORE INITIATIVE?
THIS EVENT IS FOR YOU!
Do you want to know exactly what Common Core is, how it was conceptualized, who created it, how testing works, how and if it affects curriculum? This forum is meant to be educational and will offer both for and against perspectives on Common Core. We invite parents, interested parties and community leaders to come discuss the pros and cons of Common Core, so we offer America’s Children the best public education possible.
Presenters:
Michael Poore. Mr. Poore is the Superintendent of Bentonville Public Schools and will speak in favor of Common Core. Mike Poore became the Superintendent of Bentonville Public Schools in June 2011. Mr. Poore received his Bachelor’s from Colorado State University in 1984 and his master’s from the University of Colorado in 1995. He has 30 years of educational experience as a teacher, coach, Athletic Director, Assistant Principal, Principal, Executive Director, Deputy Superintendent and Superintendent. He seeks for Bentonville Public Schools to be the leading school district for Arkansas and across the nation. He is on the Arkansas Department of Education’s Professional Licensure Standards Board, NW Economic Arkansas Board and serves as a mentor for new Superintendents. Bentonville Public Schools received national recognition as a Gold Medallion winner for our Trail Times Bike Program, Central Park ES named a National Blue Ribbon school in 2013, and our athletic program name #1 in the nation by MaxPreps, and the U.S. News and World Report ranked Bentonville HS #580 nationally, a significant jump from last year’s rank of #758.
Jenni White. Mrs. White has been instrumental in removing Common Core from the neighboring state of Oklahoma and will speak against Common Core. She earned a Master's Degree in Biology from the University of Central Oklahoma, where she honed her research skills on such interesting subjects as Mexican free-tailed bats and north American river otter before becoming a high school science teacher. After a stint as an Epidemiology for the Oklahoma State Health Department, Jenni went back to teaching as a 7th grade science teacher on the same team with her mother, an English teacher, before retiring to stay home with her children. As a stay-at-home mom involved in her children's educations, Jenni became increasingly aware of how poor even their Blue Ribbon public elementary was becoming. Her concerns gave rise to Restore Oklahoma Public Education and spawned several highly detailed research papers on the Common Core State Standards Initiative and the State Longitudinal Database System. Jenni has been a radio guest on the Laura Ingraham Show, The Sam Sorbo Show (Talk Radio Network), Sandy Rios in the Morning (American Family Radio), The Glenn Beck Show with host Dana Loesch, and was a panelist with Matt Kibbe, David Barton and Oklahoma Senator Josh Brecheen for Glenn Beck's We Will Not Conform Live event.
Presenters will have opening remarks and will take questions from the audience. We hope that you, your friends, relatives and neighbors will join us on March 12th, 2015 @ 6:30PM for a very important presentation on Common Core.
Please feel free to share this invitation with your school board members, interested parents or grand parents, and State Representative and Senator.
