America Recycles Day

Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area Celebrates America Recycles Day With Award-winning Documentary, Bag It, and Educational Resources to Make Our Community Safer

On Saturday, November 15, Hobbs State Park – Conservation Area will host a day of educational activities about recycling to celebrate America Recycles Day, the only national recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.

From 10 am – noon, Teresa Sidwell, Environmental Manager for the Benton County Environmental Division, will be at Hobbs State Park to discuss the benefits of recycling in our community as well as how and what can be recycled.

From 1 – 3 pm, Leah Saffian, Environmental Educator with Washington County Environmental Affairs, will be on hand to remind families of simple steps we can all take to keep our community and environment safe by keeping toxic household waste out of our landfills.  There will also be a recycling craft for children to make and take.

At 3 pm, Hobbs State Park is hosting a screening of the award-winning environmental documentary, Bag It.  Bag It follows “everyman” Jeb Berrier as he tries to make sense of our dependence on plastic bags.  Did you know that the average American uses about 500 plastic bags each year, for about twelve minutes each?  The film explores how our daily reliance on plastic threatens not only waterways and marine life, but human health too.
