A routine email that was sent to online subscribers of Walmart.com Monday morning (Oct. 27) contained deals on Halloween costumes that were labeled on the retailer website as “Fat Girl Costumes.”

The category title included plus size costumes such as “Lava Diva Female Vampire, Lava Diva Saloon Girl, Lava Diva Bewitching and Lava Diva Queen of Hearts.

"This never should have been on our site. It is unacceptable, and we apologize. We are working to remove it as soon as possible and ensure this never happens again," Walmart spokesman Ravi Jariwala noted in a media response early in the day.

The label was removed from the e-commerce site by 10 a.m. central time on Monday. The category is now labeled “Plus size costume” and contains three pages of items.
