Election Central: Big Names Coming To Campaign In Northeast Arkansas
KATV’s Elicia Dover delivers Monday’s Election Central Daily Brief, which includes news of big names coming to Northeast Arkansas to campaign for Republicans Asa Hutchinson and Tom Cotton.
SENATE RACE
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette endorsed Tom Cotton for Senate on Sunday. The state’s daily newspaper editorial page said, “We endorse Tom Cotton today with the confidence that he would make not just a good senator but maybe, we dare hope, a great one. It’s time again, as in Winthrop Rockefeller’s day, for Arkansas to reach for excellence. and choose a profile in courage.”
The Pryor campaign says tomorrow he’ll be in Little Rock to receive the endorsement of the American Nurses Association.
GOVERNOR’S RACE
In the governor’s race, Republican Asa Hutchinson voted early today and later this week he has a very big rally for his campaign. He’ll be in Jonesboro joined by Governors Chris Christie (NJ), Bill Haslam (TN), and Mike Pence (IN), along with former Governor Haley Barbour (MS).
Hutchinson will also be joined by Rep. Tom Cotton.
Democrat Mike Ross will be in Little Rock and Monticello on Tuesday.
FUTURE FIRST LADY
Also, we want to let you know about a special feature: KATV’s Beth Hunt interviews the potential first ladies of Arkansas. On Tuesday, she has a sit-down interview with Susan Hutchinson and on Wednesday, Hunt sits down with Holly Ross.
SECOND DISTRICT
In the Second District Congressional race, former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee was in Arkansas Monday evening campaigning for Republican candidate French Hill. Hill and his Democratic rival, Pat Hays, sparred over support from the NRA on Monday.
MINIMUM WAGE MAKES THE BALLOT
Lastly, we end with ballot issues. The Arkansas Supreme Court ruled today that the minimum wage issue will be counted on the November ballot. The person challenging that issue, a member of the Stephens’ family, had his petition denied.
