Tusk to Tail 2014: Off to Arlington. May need birth control, drug testing kits
The Tusk to Tail crew is off to Arlington to see if the Hogs can pull off an upset against a Texas A&M team that appears to be even better without that Johnny fella. Few with the crew are giving the Hogs a chance against the Aggies. Three from the crew are predicting a stunner of a thriller of an upset over the Aggies. Read the commentary below to figure out which members of Tusk to Tail should be drug tested.
THE QUESTION
How many passing yards will Arkansas have against Texas A&M? How many rushing yards will Texas A&M have against Arkansas?
Sean Casey
With an improved aTm defense, the Aggies will slow down the Hog offense allowing Arkansas only 143 passing yards. The Aggies sport the best QB in the SEC and their passing attack will eviscerate the Razorback secondary keeping the Hogs off balance and opening numerous rushing lanes. Arkansas will allow the Aggie running game 187 yards on the ground.
Jack Clark
280 yards rushing for Hogs. 150 yards passing for Hogs.
Dale Cullins
I say BA has a decent day with 170 yards passing. I'm hoping we get about 230 rushing yards and just keep the Aggies off the field. Aggies have a good day running, 160 total, but most likely will rack up 300 passing.
Greg Houser
I'll take a gander that B.A. will get about 215 yards passing. Two big plays and the rest will be relatively short to keep drives alive for our beloved Hogs. I'd like to think that our D will bend but not break. A shade over 200 yards rushing for A&M (including some QB scrambles). A few short punts will keep the points down.
Craig May
Last season the Hogs passed for 282 and ran for 201. If we can flip those numbers in this game, we should have a good shot to win. Hogs pass for 155, and Aggies rush for 145.
David Rice
If our run game is working, we should be able to get around 175 yards through the air. The Aggies have averaged about 170 yards rushing against the better teams they have played, and well over 200 against the bad this season. I’d like to see us hold them around 150.
Mark Wagner
Arkansas will pass for one more yard than is needed to defeat aTm! No? OK, how about 212 yards. aTm will rush for 211 yards against the Hogs (I said it would be a close one).
Claude Blair
We will have 200ish passing yards. Aggies will have 150ish rushing.
Chris May
I expect Brandon Allen to post his usual numbers: 11-19, 175 yards, 2 TD, 1 INT. A&M's passing game will give it opportunities on the ground. They rush for 160 yards.
Todd Rudisill
Hogs – 175 passing
A&M – 125 rushing
THE GAMES
• Arkansas @ #6 Texas A&M
Sean Casey
Unfortunately Arkansas loses this game in Jerry World, 42-30.
Jack Clark
Texas A&M wins.
Dale Cullins
The Hogs have to play mistake free football Saturday and need a great 3rd down conversion rate to keep the ball out of Aggie hands to even have a chance to win. However, I just think the Hogs D has too many holes, so I have to pick the Aggies, 41 to 30 over the Hogs.
Greg Houser
I wrote most of my explanations above, so Arkansas 28, A&M 38. I sincerely hope I've got my numbers flipped. Honestly, I think my Piggies make those Aggies limp off the field thankful for a win, if they win.
Craig May
I look for both teams to play their styles, the Hogs running the ball and Aggies throwing it around the field. The Hogs make a game out of it, but the Aggies pull away in the 4th quarter Aggies 41, Hogs 31.
David Rice
Texas A&M has only beaten Arkansas three or more times in a row once, and that was from 1938-1943. The Hogs have never lost in Jerry World. These traditions continue as the Razorbacks upset the Aggies in a thriller.
Mark Wagner
Arkansas pulls off an upset 35-31. This will create so much euphoria in the state that in nine months hospitals will be overwhelmed by the surge babies being born.
Claude Blair
Arkansas had a great all around game last week. People who aren't coaches and complained lack perspective. I expect a competitive effort that sadly doesn't result in a win. We still need work.
Chris May
I believe in our program. I believe in our head coach. I believe in our stable of running backs. I believe in our offensive and defensive lines. I'm even starting to believe in our linebackers. I believe we're laying the foundation both within the program and on the recruiting trail to have sustained success in the future. But the future is not this weekend. A&M 59, Arkansas 45.
Todd Rudisill
Oh, where to begin? We’ve gone from having this a W before the season to an L a couple of weeks ago to back to maybe a W this week. I think the Hogs run it down the Aggies throats and mix in just enough pass from plays we have yet to see. How good is really A&M? Only impressive win was against a unprepared Carolina team who just barely beat Vandy. Let’s find out. Hogs in a stunner 41-38.
• Cincinnati @ #22 Ohio State
Sean Casey
This is a spectacularly uninteresting game. Cincinnati uses a sundial to measure their 40 times and as such Urban Meyer will use this opportunity to blowout the Bearcats. Ohio State wins 63 to 14 and anything else is a failure on the part of Urban Meyer.
Claude Blair
Cinci allowed THE Miami of Ohio 24 points. This forces me to pick Urban's team.
Chris May
Seriously? Is anyone going to watch this game? In my book, any bad day for Urban Meyer is a good day. But Tubby & Co. are not ready. Ohio State 28, Cincy 10.
Todd Rudisill
I love that Ohio State is irrelevant this early in the season. Don’t you? Buckeyes 35-24
• Washington @ #16 Stanford
Craig May
I don’t know anything about the PAC 12, but I do know Coach Bielema wants the Hogs to be the Stanford of the SEC, so I’ll pick them to win. Cardinals 35, Huskies 21.
David Rice
I don’t have a prediction here, just a story. Several years ago, Craig’s young son was at his uncle’s wedding in Washington, and the groomsmen were listening to the game against Oregon State. Lawson started listening with them, before making a disgusted face. “Huskies? Beavers? Dad, what are they listening to? Turn it to the SEC!” Craig earned his World’s Greatest Dad trophy that day.
Claude Blair
Great matchup. I reluctantly admit that this seems like an entertaining west coast football game. I'll take Washington at home.
Chris May
Remember when we thought Chris Petersen might come to Fayetteville? Screw that guy. Stanford 25, Washington 17.
Todd Rudisill
Pac 10 football. Yawn. Trees 24-19.
• Missouri @ #13 South Carolina
Jack Clark
South Carolina wins.
Claude Blair
Missouri, you lost to Indiana. What the heck! South Carolina wins.
Chris May
Remember when we thought Dorial Green-Beckham … oh, never mind. So much to dislike about both these programs. So much to dislike about any mediocre program that hides in the SEC East. SC wins only because they're at home. USCe 35, Mizzou 31.
Todd Rudisill
How is GameDay in Columbia after Mizzou got asked, “Hoosier Daddy?” last week at home by Indiana and SC barely beat a horrible Vandy team? They should have been in Arlington for Hogs and Aggies. I agree with the ole ball Coach that his team is embarrassing. And they will live it up to that. Tigers 31-24
• Tennessee @ #12 Georgia
Greg Houser
I'll take Georgia over Tenner by 2 TD's. Last thought: does UGA run Gurley so much that he is banged up by the time they meet us? Richt is going to run the crap out of Gurley like Spurrier did to Lattimore.
Chris May
Tennessee will be back in a few years, but they're too young for this road trip. UGA 44, UT 17.
Todd Rudisill
All Dawgs 37-21.
• #8 Notre Dame @ Syracuse
Mark Wagner
Even though Syracuse likes to describe itself as "New York's college team," the crowd at MetLife Stadium should be largely in support of the Fighting Irish. Syracuse matches up poorly with Notre Dame and they will have trouble scoring points if their QB (Hunt) & star RB (Gulley) can't establish the team’s ground attack. There is no reason to believe that Notre Dame’s QB won't have a big game, and I think the Irish will have a big win. Notre Dame 38, Syracuse 20.
Claude Blair
Freaking Domers.
Chris May
You definitely have to root for someone to pants the Irish before they start getting talked about for the playoff. But not this week. ND 28, Syracuse 3.
Todd Rudisill
Nothing to see here and who would? Irish 33-14.
