Election Central: Senate Race Dominates The Day’s Political Activity
KATV’s Elicia Dover delivers Thursday’s Election Central Daily Brief, which focuses heavily on the U.S. Senate race.
Big news in the Senate race on Thursday. After much debate about debating, incumbent Democratic Senator Mark Pryor and his challenger, Republican Congressman Tom Cotton have finally agreed to a debate, the first and only both candidates have agreed to so far.
KATV Ch. 7 will be the exclusive broadcaster of this live debate in Central Arkansas.
The debate, sponsored by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce, will take place on Tuesday, October 14th. The one-hour live debate will be broadcast statewide at 7 p.m. from the University of Arkansas-Fayetteville’s Global Campus.
This is the first and only debate to date that both Cotton and Pryor have agreed to.
Talk Business & Politics host Roby Brock will be the moderator and Channel 7’s Scott Inman will be one of the journalists on the panel. Of course, Ch. 7 will have comprehensive coverage of that debate in our newscasts. We’ll also be streaming the debate on KATV.com.
In case you missed it yesterday, the National Rifle Association endorsed Cotton for Senate, an endorsement that can’t hurt in this state.
Also yesterday, the Pryor campaign’s women’s group – Pryor for Women – held a phone press conference thanking Pryor for voting for the Paycheck Fairness Act. Pryor was on the call too and hit Cotton for not supporting it when he’s had the chance.
Coming up this weekend, the Pryor campaign is having a day of action in which Pryor will get his volunteers ready to knock on doors, rallying people to vote for him.
The Cotton campaign will be out in force too. On Saturday he’ll be making bus tour stops in Huntsville, Harrison and Yellville.
