Big River Steel Groundbreaking Set For Sept. 22
Groundbreaking ceremonies for the state’s first superproject, Big River Steel, will take place September 22.
The Blytheville Courier-News first reported the announcement.
The $1.3 billion steel mill is expected to take 18-24 months to complete. The construction phase of the project could employ up to 2,000 workers regionally. Once operational, Big River Steel is expected to employ up to 500 workers with an average annual salary of $75,000 or more.
Osceola (Mississippi County) officials have been planning for ways to capitalize on the construction project and final steel mill factory.
Two weeks ago, rival Nucor Steel filed a federal lawsuit to halt construction of the massive superproject citing air quality concerns. Nucor has two steel manufacturing facilities in Mississippi County.
