Citing health issues, Jerry Reece announced he is resigning his post as a manager of the Northeast Arkansas Fair.

In a letter to several local leaders, including Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin and Craighead County Judge Ed Hill, Reece stated he had made his decision following weeks of “prayerful consideration and family discussion.”

Reece, who has served 48 consecutive years on the fair board, stated “some health-related issues” led to his decision.

“I feel it is time for me to step down and spend needed time with my family,” Reece wrote.

Reece’s resignation will take effect on December 31, 2014.
