Talk Business & Politics Editor-in-Chief Roby Brock delivers Monday’s top political headlines in this Election Central Daily Brief.

HUTCHINSON TAX FLAP
The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported over the weekend that GOP gubernatorial candidate Asa Hutchinson improperly received the homestead tax credit on residences in Benton and Pulaski County.

State law only allows one residence to be claimed for the $350 annual tax credit. Hutchinson discovered the improper tax credit in 2012 and did pay Pulaski County at total of $1,050 in October of 2012 to correct the tax credit mistake.

Hutchinson’s Democratic challenger Mike Ross responded to the story. From Ross spokesman Brad Howard:

“[The] troubling revelation by the Arkansas Democrat Gazette that Congressman Hutchinson cheated on his taxes and then evaded penalties for doing so is just more disturbing proof that Congressman Hutchinson is out of touch with working families in Arkansas.”

BEEBE COMMENTS ON TRADE MISSION
Gov. Mike Beebe says his latest overseas trade mission is likely his last. In his weekend radio address, Beebe recapped his recent travels to England, France and the Czech Republic to recruit new businesses to Arkansas. The Governor, who will leave office in January, also met with several existing industries with Arkansas ties.

He said he’s confident the trip will result in more jobs.
