Weber to transfer from Razorback athletics to Razorback Foundation

After 42 years with Razorback Athletics, including 35 as the program’s head athletic trainer, Dean Weber will transition to a new role in the Razorback Foundation beginning in July.


As an assistant director with the Razorback Foundation, Weber will work directly in the engagement of former Razorback student-athletes including their involvement in the A Club and the Razorback Foundation Century Circle program. He will also assist in coordinating some of the Razorback Foundation’s signature events including Razorback Clubs, the UA Sports Hall of Honor and the Red Tie Dinner and Auction.

“Dean Weber has been a part of Razorback Athletics for more than four decades,” Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said in a statement. “In that time he has worked with thousands of Razorback student-athletes helping them to achieve their goals at the University of Arkansas. We are pleased that he will be joining our outstanding Razorback Foundation team in supporting our more than 460 student-athletes. In his new role, Dean will be an integral part of our interaction with former student-athletes further connecting them with our program and our university.”
 
For the past six years, Weber has served as the director of equipment operations for Razorback Athletics. In that role, Weber oversaw all equipment operations for all 19 Razorback programs.

“It has been a labor of love working with the Razorbacks for the past 42 years,” Weber said. “The daily interaction with student-athletes has always been the most enjoyable part of my job. Our student-athletes give so much of themselves to our program and I want to make sure that even when they leave our campus they have a way to stay in touch with our program. I appreciate this opportunity and am looking forward to working with Executive Director Sean Rochelle and all of his staff at the Razorback Foundation.”

Weber has spent most of his time at the University of Arkansas as the Razorbacks’ head athletic trainer. During his 35-year tenure in that position, he won numerous awards and honors. Weber is a 1998 inductee into the Arkansas Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame. In the same year, he and former assistant Kevin Pitts, were recognized by the same organization as the Arkansas Athletic Trainers of the Year.

Weber was inducted into the UA Sports Hall of Honor in 2000 and he is also a member of the Southwest Athletic Trainers’ Association Hall of Fame. His professional career brought Weber national recognition for his work with athletic shoes as they apply to playing surfaces and for his research on turf toe injuries.


In 1984, Weber was selected to the United States Olympic Team as athletic trainer after previously serving on the athletic training staff at the National Sports Festival three times.

Weber joined the Arkansas staff in March 1973, after serving as assistant athletic trainer at North Carolina. He worked for the Tar Heels for five years before moving to Fayetteville. He has participated in 26 bowl games as an athletic trainer, including every Razorback bowl game from the 1976 Cotton Bowl to the 2008 Cotton Bowl. In addition, Weber has twice been on the athletic training staff at the Japan Bowl and worked with teams that advanced to the NCAA Final Four twice while he was at North Carolina.

Weber has two children, Matt and Ben, and 12 grandchildren, Drew, Taylor, Taylor, Caleb, Spencer, Abby, Kendall, Mason, Emily, Tyler Hays, Conner and Eli David.
