Secchi Day on Beaver Lake
The 9th annual Secchi Day on Beaver Lake will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, 2014, at Prairie Creek on Beaver Lake five miles east of Rogers, Arkansas, on Hwy. 12. The event is named for the Secchi Disk, a black and white device lowered into the water to measure clarity. Volunteers with boats, as well as the general public (no boat needed), are invited to take part. Volunteers with boats help us gather samples that day. This takes about 20-30 minutes, but there’s travel time involved depending on where your sample point is located. Pre-registration well in advance is necessary. If you are interested, send an email now to [email protected]. The Science Education Festival does not require a boat. Just come on out to Prairie Creek! The Festival includes activities for all ages, with a mobile aquarium, on shore scavenger hunt with prizes, lunch, pontoon boat rides, birding walks, fish identification and more. This event is free and open to everyone!
