Texas Hold ‘em tourney raises money for the Boys and Girls Club of Benton County

The Boys and Girls Club of Benton County held its annual Texas Hold’em Tournament, sponsored by Unilever, on Saturday (Jan. 25), at the Avondale Chapel and Gardens in Bentonville. 116 card players participated in the 8th annual event.
The Boys and Girls Club of Benton County exceeded its goal, raising more than $18,000 at the event, to help support programs and services for the club’s youth.
“That covers everything from leadership to nutrition and character building. Any chance we expose people to all the good works that are being done at the club is an opportunity for us to generate more individual contributions,” said Tregg Brown, board president for The Boys and Girls Club of Benton County. “It gives us an opportunity to give exposure to a different group of people who may not come to traditional golf tournaments or galas.”
“All proceeds from today go towards making sure that our kids have a safe place to go, and that they’re being developed in the area of academic success, healthy lifestyles and citizenship,” said Jacob Hutson, chief professional officer of The Boys and Girls Club of Benton County.
“Our poker tournaments are always fun, no matter how good you are. We experience all kinds. We get people here who play purely for the charity side of it and others that take it very seriously,” said Stephen Beringer, a board member of The Boys and Girls Club of Benton County.
“I’m here to support the charity and to enjoy some games with some friends,” said Osama Sabbah, a first time tournament participant.
“We have a lot of repeat players every year and many said this was the best tournament yet. They thought it was well-run,” said Sabrina Rampy, director of community relations for the Boys and Girls Club of Benton County.
Jerry Jones was the winner of the tournament and claimed the grand prize, a 55” LG Smart TV. Danny Sanchez of Procter and Gamble and Charles Greathouse, other winners at the final table, walked away with an Apple MacBook Air and a iPad Mini, respectively. Nearly $5,000 in prizes were awarded at the event.
