Walmart.com investigates pricing mistakes (updated)
A technical problem at Walmart.com on Wednesday (Nov. 6) caused certain products such as computer monitors and treadmills to be priced incorrectly as $33 and $9, respectively.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. blamed the pricing mistakes on a “technical error” and said it’s working to resolve the issue but the site could have some intermittent problems with product availability while the issue is being resolved.
The retailer has been in the process of doubling the number of items it offers of its website escalating to 5 million products ahead of the holidays as it expects to increase online sales by 30% this year.
Early Bird Online Specials hit the in-boxes of email subscribers and Walmart app users early each morning, but today some of the prices were too good to be true.
"We apologize for any inconvenience to our customers," said Ravi Jariwala, a spokesman for Wal-Mart's online operations.
The deals showed up on Twitter early Wednesday morning as consumers shared the word with their friends and followers.
(Updated) "Given the wide discrepancy in pricing, we are notifying customers who ordered these items that their orders have been canceled and that they’ll be refunded in full. In addition, we will send these customers a $10 e-gift card that can be used towards future purchases at Walmart stores and Walmart.com. We apologize again for any inconvenience this may have caused our customers," said Bao Nguyen, corporate spokesman for Walmart.com.
